You thought no one noticed.” His expression shifted. “You were crying so silently… like you didn’t want anyone to hear you break.” He looked away. “You were holding your father’s watch,” she continued. “And I remember thinking that if life was going to make you this strong, then I wanted to be the place where you didn’t have to be.” Her voice didn’t shake. “I didn’t understand love back then. But that was the day I chose you.” A pause. “I promised myself I would give you everything you deserve — even if you never asked for it.” This time, he didn’t respond immediately. Because falling can fade — but growing into love means it has already claimed your soul—a vow you make without words.
